Hello Everyone,
Happy to see a few familiar people enrolled in another exciting ETEC class with Dr. Newberry ( as well as many new people)

My proposal is to earn an "A" by completing three projects on their due dates. Right now I would like to complete one from each area.
First, a little about me:

I have completed all course requirement for a Masters in Instructional Technology, but must remain enrolled unitl my thesis is approved, hopefully at the end of this quarter.
Since 2004 I have completed my Bachelor's, a teaching Credential, and am finishing up my Master's from CSUSB.

My teaching assignment is at Hamilton K-8, where I am the Chair of the middle school math department.
For this class I propose to complete three projects as I desire to earn an "A". This should not be overly difficult as I do use technology as often as possible within my class, as well as seek out new forms of technology and ways to integrate into my lessons.

Area 1- Using technology to increase our personal effectiveness in our own role as well as being a model for others to follow. Our students are able to use technology better than many adults, as they grew up using computers, Ipods, difital cameras, and of course, XBox. Due to this heightned awareness of technology, I find that to be an effective teacher, I must also use technology. In my class I use overhead projectors, LCD projectors, computers (mine as well as student use), and my latest exciting piece of technology, the Mimio Xi.

Area 2- Communicating to others information about the effective use of technology including training and guiding others to use technology effectively. At my site many teachers and administrators will come to me for technology ideas or how-tos. Since I am the Chair of my Department, I do open my room to others to demonstrate how I incorporate technology into my lessons.

Area 3- Supporting the effective use of technology through planning for technology use, promoting technology use, staff development, infrastructure acquisition and upkeep. I attended the recent math conference in Palm Sprins, where I saw many exciting pieces of technology offered. This is where I first heard of the Mimio Xi. With this tool I am able to write on the whiteboard from the back of the room and have the students interact with examples on the board. Even though this is a new item for me, and I am still work through some of the applications, I have held demonstrations for administration and four teachers; all were fascinated with the capabilites of this tool.

Robert,

Great to meet you. I also teach mathematics. I am just starting the ETEC program, but I am sure that I can benefit from your blogs and insight during this class.

Dale,
Our baseball All-Stars made it to third; a great feat for us as we were plagued with management and transportation problems.
Looking forward to another GREAT class,
Robert
